[F@H] Failure to upload question

Here's the background stuff: EM III is reporting that 2 WU's on one of my pc's are sitting in que waiting to be uploaded.

One shows can't connect to server 171.64.122.136:80
then says getting 503 server error on 171.65.103.100:80

crunched a new WU finishing this morning. this one is sitting waiting to go home also.. server is 171.64.65.83:8080 now crunching on new WU.

I belive that one of the 2 actually went home but I'm not really sure..

The WU's involved are:

P2053 24/13/84 219 Points

P3302 1184/1/0 94 Points..

The second WU worth 94 Points is the one I believe went home already.. only one with those points I've had recently.

Can some one check to see if they went home? if so, I know I can delete from folder safely.. if not.. will just have to wait because every trick I can think of I tried and they are still sitting there..

I think Sorto is the only one here that can check. Have you tried toggling your "use IE settings" parameter in the config? I seem to remember someone having a problem where the WU was getting turned in repeatedly, but something in the IE settings was blocking the last little bit of handshaking that told the client the WU had been succesfully submitted. Also, if you put IE7 on that computer, I think I read someplace that "use IE settings" MUST be off.

Using "post reply", because I don't feel like waiting for NAC DNS to resolve!

Santy, did you try closing those two down, then restarting them?

If one showes it's still "in queue", then it hasn't been sent.

Yep. stopped client waiting about 3 mins. restarted.. no go.

Rebooted computer.. same results.

IE 7 is installed and I changed the "use IE settings at that time to no (off).

Rusci: As stated above, yes I have, several times.. (they are both on the same PC, my laptop.

According to the Extrem overclocking stats page, it is showing that a 94 pointer was submitted and the only one that I have gotten is one of the two I'm having problems with. The 219 pointer was the first, then it crunched the 94 pointer finishing that one around 7 am this morning local.

currently cruching another WU. so it's collecting work to do, just having a problem sending those 2 home..

Your problem sounds similar to »www3.dslreports.com/forum/remark,17152431.

Turning off the USE IE Settings seemed to work in that case. Perhaps it is a temporary server hiccup.

When you try to send, does it act like it is transmitting the unit (i.e., network traffic, etc.)?

I guess I should have asked the standard first question- could you please attach your fahlog.txt and fahlog-prev.txt files.

I believe it's as antbhill2 See Profile mentioned. I seem to remember having to re-config all my machines after installing IE 7 changing it from use IE settings yes to use IE settings no. that worked and I have had no other problems since then.

Next WU scheduled to go home is from another machine and it's not for another 6 1/2 hours.. so I won't be awake to see if there is a problem with that machine either..

I just finished rebooting the laptop again, and it still won't send.. funny thing is, one WU failed on port 80, the other failed on port 8080 going to the same IP addy..

I checked the server status, and they (all three IP's that I have in logs,) show that they should be accepting. One IP, I believe it is this one.. 171.65.103.100 is under a heavy load if I read it right.. that's also the IP mentioned in the previous paragraph as failing on 2 different ports with different WU's.

FAHlog.txt 35,969 bytes
FaH log.txt
FAHlog-Prev.txt 70,527 bytes
FaH log.txt -Prev.
Ok, here are the latest FaH logs for everyone to peruse..

As a secondary question, I have 5 or 6 files in the folding at home folder with the PDB ext. they are from Dec 2005 and Jan 2006
Seeing as they are over 1 year old, would it be safe to delete them?

Well I'm not going to delete the WU parts for the failed upload ones..

The ones I'm thinking about are the ones over 1 year old, with a .PDB extension.. looks like they might be check points for some old WU's..

ok, please notice the first entry for each WU shows you did receive the credit.

I am guessing, for some reason, the result files didn't get deleted and the queue didn't clear, so they keep trying to send again and are being rejected because you already received the credit for each of the WUs.

I haven't looked at your logs yet, but does this seem as though it might be correct to you?

Anthony?

Sorry, really busy today and haven't read everything yet, keept trying to get back to this.

Your log says unit 07 was completed successfully. This one:

quote:
Working on Unit 07 [January 10 21:29:05]
Project: 3302 (Run 1184, Clone 1, Gen 0)
[11:50:49] Folding@home Core Shutdown: FINISHED_UNIT
The database says that one, your Unit 07, was received and credited:
quote:

Your WU (P3302 R1184 C1 G0) was added to the stats database on 2007-01-11 04:20:48 for 94 points of credit.
So, it is safe to delete anything in that work folder related to unit 07.

This tells me the WU did go home and was credited. For some reason (network issues between you and Stanford) your client just didn't receive the acknowledgement. It would be safe to delete anything related to WU 06 for that client.

Yes, exactly the same problem and I don't think the cause is necessarily the same in every case.

Note to all:

This seems to be the same:

1. The WU is received.
2. The WU is processed and completed correctly.
3. The WU is received and credited according to the Stanford database records.
4. The client does not receive the ack for receipt of the WU from Stanford.
5. The work folder cleanup is not done and the WU still appears unsent in the queue.
6. The client keeps trying to send the unit home.
7. Stanford database piles up records of receiving it and not applying the credit again (correct response).

Some sort of network glitch causes this sometimes. It could be a glitch on the Stanford end. It could be a glitch in the client's internet connnection. It could be a glitch in between.

If it continues to happen for you and nobody else seems to be having the problem, you may need to troubleshoot your connection. If others are reporting the same thing, Stanford needs to know about it so they can troubleshoot on their end.

If it's just a temporary deal, you find out you did get the credit, you can just delete the related files and move on.

I am always willing to check to see if you got credit when you question it. Just give me the line from your log which identifies the WU in question, like this from santy's log:

quote:
Project: 2053 (Run 24, Clone 13, Gen 84)
That format makes it easiest for me to check.

Thank you Sonny. Extreme Overclocking Stats showed a 94 pointer credited that is one reason I started this thread. I wasn't sure on the other one because it could have been combined with a second WU to show a different point total when I checked the stats.. I'll delete the problem files now and all should be good to go..
