HATE third world tech support.
How much longer do they think 6MB will be enough?
With that said, they're more reliable and a better value than cable... for now.

12.3.08 update
they killed my speed last month from 3mbps to 1.5mbps last month. called up tech and they couldn't tell me why. they said sorry but we have fixed the problem and speed is back to normal. then this month they dropped my speed back down to 1.5mbps cap. i don't understand why.
2 times and this is enough, i don't want to call again, therefore comcast here i come. goodbye ATT
update 1/19/05 worst customer service in the world. apparently tranfer to some india person that can't speak english can't help nor solve my problems. person who helped keeped on repeating the question and i'm like yes yes yes... blah jibberishing speakn by them.. expect good service during sign up.. and expect bad service later on... SALE REP should get fired... don't know what she's doing. can't even find my address apprently she told me there's no DSL registered on this number when i'm using it right now. idiots...unhappy camper ___________ Update- 2-2-04 Some1 HELP ME i need better ping. rangin from 60-90 in local servers. while everyone else is getting 20-30. also... is there a way to get only 1 static ip for SBC DSL....
i ordered the sbc dsl delux packages. it has great speed. tech guy was good. also customer service was extremely helpful and had great experiences. He gave me the online order price instead to satisfy my needs. great.
soo the story starts here. i'm counting my days till DSL comes. look up my order in sbc.com. very accurate. modem came in 2 days. then i install the modem but dind't see a dsl sync. but this is before my due date. So i called up sbc and they said just keep the modem on and you'll see ur sync on ur date. hanged up the phone. 30mins later i see the sync on my modem. install the kit. and i'm up and runnning. great. i love it. testes my speeds by downloading some random stuff and also playing some games. no lagg at peak times. and not very pingy. i sa u must order SBC DSL. better then that crappy ASSS F***kiNg AOL. that laggs and shuts up offline with that nice gentle voice of GOODBYE u have been disconnected.

Service has been excellent since 2005, when I succeeded in getting Elite upgrade. See my record of earlier troubles: »aa6e.net/dsl/index.html . Thankfully, my contact with phone support is very rare now. It is really hard to talk to anyone who knows anything on the technical side, other than how to read a script. Getting 4800/600 very consistently with my Linux systems and a Speedstream 4800 modem.

My speed tests here were usually around 4-5m / 400-500k
So I ran into an issue with ATT where they had all of a sudden began charging me $70 for my 6m/608k dsl. This scenario, coincidentally, happened after I had them remove about $25 worth of additional phone services from my AT&T phone and internet plan. Here is how my customer care experience went
ME: Why am I being charged $69.99 for a DSL Service I had been recieving for $45 this past few years, also adding in the fact that this service is advertised as $35 ?
AT&T: AT&T records indicate the rate of $44.99 for AT&T High Speed Internet was a promotional rate. It appears you have successfully fulfilled this term and the DSL rate was automatically converted to a month to month price plan, which is currently $69.99.
If you would like to upgrade your DSL to a higher speed or review the available rate plans at your current speed tier, please visit the link below for more information and to submit your request.
When I click on the link it shows my speeds at that advertised $35 I mentioned. I read the fine print, indeed promotional price for 2 years, and guess what, they make NO mention of the regular rate. None whatsoever !
Unfortunately for me, I had been paying this $70 rate for a few months without me noticing because I do auto payments. I only found out when I went to review how I could squeeze in a phone plan for the Iphone.
Well needless to say, I went and bought the google/tmobile G1 smartphone, and have now set up a sexy hot cable internet with a 10/1 bandwidth rate. This is $30 for 3 months promo rate and $50 afterwards. Now that I have that all set up, I am killing my AT&T service and beginning my quest at boycotting their shady dealings.
I will also mention that I have been with this ISP for 5-6 years.

SBC dial-up network with numerous local numbers is available at no extra cost. Important to me because neither of our parents have computers; much less broadband.

I had Cable & DSL in the past as well, my only gripe was DSL was expensive for the lower speeds, & Cable has constantly gone up/started caps. Though (w DSL) after the years the prices have fallen flat & the speed has increased generally. They (Telco) built a remote terminal in my area some while back. So I qualify for the highest tier (Elite) which I ordered at 35$/month for (6mb/768k). The order & install went swell, took two days for them to ship the modem out (IIRC), plugged it in (self-install kit) & I was cooking.
Gripes: A 2wire wireless gateway was supplied, I already have a solid better wireless router, so had requested the regular DSL modem instead. They didn't have any in my area. So the rep had given me rebates, so it was no extra charge. Just plugged in my wireless router & disabled the gateways wireless signal. So problem solved.
